Switching Gears
Hey everyone, welcome to another edition of Homeroom Announcements, my Friday podcast type video where I give thoughts and updates about the Skooled Zone channel.
So guys, looks like I'm going to be switching gears a bit here. The channel is picking up steam, thanks to you all, and it's time I start catering to requests. As I've mentioned in past podcasts, I had a fantastic time starting the channel with Dishonored. Not only was it a fun series to do, but it allowed me to hone my skills as a content creator. No YouTuber starts out perfect by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, I don't even believe perfection is achievable. It's a mile marker that you should always keep pushing down the road once you get close to it.
After Dishonored, I rolled into Sniper Elite 3. That was another game I really enjoyed on the 360 and I think the switch from the Industrial Revolution to World War 2 was a really fun contrast when it came to the factoids that I was able to feature during gameplay. But it's high time time for that next gen upgrade.
The truth is that I wanted to wait for a long as I could before I bought a next gen console, mainly because I knew I could get a much better unit for a much better cost with just a little patience. I tend to be a bargain shopper like that. So by waiting a bit, I was able to get a shiny new 1 terabyte Xbox One for the same price others paid for a 500 gig system a year ago. Plus, I hopped on a very brief promo where Gamestop was offering a $50 gift card if I bought the console from them. They're not a sponsor or anything. I just thought it was an awesome deal and I jumped on it feeling like it was money well spent. Console systems are not cheap, but I'm glad I went ahead and took the plunge. I think Playstations are awesome too and, as soon as I can afford it, I'll be picking up a PS4 as well. I'm definitely in both camps. It's just a matter of budget and all that jazz.
Anyway, I bring this up because normally I like to finish what I start. But now that I have an Xbox One, I'm itching to play next gen games on the Skooled Zone. So I'm going to be putting Sniper Elite 3 on the back-burner and showcasing some wicked new next gen games starting with Assassin's Creed Syndicate. I'll still throw in the occasional Sniper Elite 3 episode because I still really like that game and there are so many cool factoids to feature, but today is definitely marking a turning point in the channel where I'm going to start taking to the next level.
Assassin's Creed Syndicate is friggin' awesome. I'm having a blast playing it and the graphics are blowing my mind. It's kinda funny that I went from the Victorian era in Dishonored to the Victorian era in AC Syndicate. But it is what it is. I think there will still be a lot of fun facts to feature and just the gameplay itself is epic. As if you can't tell, I'm definitely a fan of period pieces.
But as a gamer on YouTube, I'm still trying to figure out when it's appropriate to leave a game series incomplete. If you're a YouTube gamer and you're watching this, leave a comment below on how you decide when to move on to a new game. Is it based solely on reception and views? It is based on boredom? Is it based on viewer suggestions? I think we'd all be curious as to your unique perspective.
I knew when I started the channel, there would be a bunch of amazing games that I'd have to leave behind just to kind of jump on the moving train and keep up. However, I think I'm feeling okay about it. It would be cool to have those nice completed playlists. But man, there are only so many hours in a day, ya know? Time is such a precious commodity for content creators and I'm at that stage now where decision-making is actually being a priority for the channel. I suppose that's a good problem I have, I guess. We'll see.
Anyway, none of this would even matter if it weren't for you guys and all your support. So I never want to forgot to thank you for being amazing and making me feel so welcome here on YouTube. Keep on watching and I'll keep on cranking out awesome new videos. And on that note, have a good weekend and I'll see you very soon with another gaming episode.
